Aromatherapy and Holistic Massage

Aromatherapy dates back to ancient Egypt, where plants and flowers were distilled to extract their essential oils. It is a holistic therapy which takes into account the “whole person”-mind, body and spirit. Aromatherapy massage is a nurturing treatment combining the beneficial effects of the oils with the physiological effects of improving blood and lymph flow and easing muscular tension.

Aromatherapy is especially helpful for stress-related and depressive conditions: it promotes a feeling of well-being and calm. It may also help with such things as tiredness, insomnia, headaches, migraine, sinus problems, and muscle pain.

Pregnancy: massage is helpful during pregnancy to relax the whole body and relieve lower back and leg pain, and is generally safe after the first trimester. Some essential oils must be strictly avoided during pregnancy, and therefore it is important that you consult a qualified practitioner who will be able to advise you about your individual needs. Massage should be avoided by women with placental dysfunctions, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, toxaemia or threatened miscarriage–you may be asked to consult your doctor before booking an appointment if there is any doubt.
